Practice

We are part of nature.

There is an urgency to do what we can to protect our home planet Earth and the life on it. I believe that many different kinds of paths and languages are needed in order for us to listen, expand our views and nurture our connection with nature.

Flowers are my love language is a creative project, where I study the botanical world, vintage vases and vessels. I can't own all the vases that speak to me and this way I can enjoy the thrill of discovery and the practice of curating that I love dearly. Photography is a way of contemplating on the forms and nature of the plants and objects for me. Noticing and learning from the plants that surround us is critical when it comes to living together with the land that ultimately cares for us.

I am not trained in biology, floristry or botanical sciences, but a curious learner inspired by many muses such as Slow Flowers Finland (see global Slow Flower Society here), FloweRescue and other pioneers of more sustainable floral culture, as well as the being part of the community Third Rock and by forces of nature such as botanical scholars Sinikka Piippo and Hildegard of Bingen and writer Eeva Kilpi.

My hope is that vases are filled more and more consciously.

I wish to inspire a shift toward locally and sustainably grown flowers as often the flowers have arrived to us in the Nordics in a way that is not sustainable. As with edible plants we need to adapt more to what is available to us locally each season.

The same philosophy guides the objects we choose to live with. I wish we all considered all the imperfections of material objects not as blemishes but as patinas. I believe in collecting purposefully, heirloom objects that grow more meaningful with age, encouraging us to consume less and cherish more what already exists.
