Blue "Ampiaispesä" Arabia ARA ceramic vase

This smallest size version of "Beehive" or "Ampiaispesä" vase is hand painted with blue hued decoration. Faience. The vase is designed by Kurt Ekholm.

This is a vintage piece. Please note that the object might show visible signs of previous use, minor cosmetic wear, fading and patina. The vase is in great vintage condition.

ARA objects were made from Finnish red faience, which was covered with a light tin glaze or sometimes with a matte glaze. Ekholm, Olga Osol, Michael Schilkin, Toini Muona, and Kaj Franck designed jugs, vases, and bowls that were painted by unknown painters. The floral and ornamental decorations were not named, and the painters often signed the objects with their initials on the bottom. The department founded was in operation until 1950.
